My Arrival

I’ve been here in France for a week now and I’ve been pretty busy so it’s taken me a while to get this blog up and running. My flight left in the evening on Monday Sept. 12 and arrived in Oslo, Norway the next morning (I flew Norwegian Air).

Hello, Norway!
I had a 7 hour layover in Oslo, during which time I was able to go into the city and walk around for a few hours (I hope to make another blog post about what I did in Oslo). I arrived in Nice, France on the evening of Sept. 13.

Bye, Norway!

Hello, France!
Watching the sunset over the southern coast of France.
Virginie, the teacher I’m staying with, picked me up at the airport.  After eating sandwiches for dinner and cramming all of my luggage into her tiny car we drove back to her house. Her daughters (ages 7 and 9) were so excited about my arrival that they couldn’t go to bed until we got home (way past their bed time). They are really adorable and have told me that they don’t want me to look for an apartment because they want me to stay with them (even though it means they have to share a bed room). The younger girl especially always wants me to sit next to her at dinner, play games with her, come watch her swim practice, etc. It’s so sweet!

Playing "hairdresser" with the girls.
Virginie lives in Peymeinade, which is a smaller town near Grasse. The region is very hilly/mountainous and it’s really beautiful.

Since arriving in France, I have visited Grasse and the nearby city Cannes. I have also started the processes of opening a bank account, getting a phone plan, and looking for an apartment, but those are all stories themselves, and I plan to write posts about them very soon.
